British Gas cuts electricity prices by 10%

The move by British Gas to cut it’s electricity prices by 10% is not only a positive one from a customer perspective, it’s also an astute one in terms of sound business management.
Along with the rest of it’s peers and rivals, British Gas had already announced a price cut to it’s gas prices early in [...]

EDF Energy cuts electricity prices

EDF Energy has cut it’s electricity prices by 8.8% (on average), delivering a £40 price cut (on the average electricity bill size) to the majority of the 2.3million customers currently residing on it’s standard plan.
These price cuts aren’t a clear cut across the board set of changes. What we are seeing is a set [...]

E.ON announces electricity price cut of 9%

E.ON has announced a price cut of 9% to it’s standard electricity prices. This move affects 4.1 million of it’s customers and will be welcomed when it kicks in on 31st March.

Scottish and Southern Energy drop prices

And then there were two. Scottish and Southern Energy’s (SSE) price drop today of 4% (£32) on gas and 9% (£44) on electricity will be welcomed by it’s customers. Similar to the price drop of British Gas (10% on gas only), the price cut by SSE only affects it’s ’standard’ plan customers.
Some will [...]

British Gas 10% price cut

The British Gas price cut of 10% announced today will be seen as a cautionary first step, but an extremely welcomed one by many consumers.
By only impacting gas bills, British Gas still seems to be reflecting some of the concern many have with the volatility of the wholesale market – which we all know eventually [...]

E.ON and SSE make their mark

Today’s price increases by E.ON and SSE are a sure sign of what the remaining suppliers will do to their prices.
That is, shift them enough to prevent any further increases this year, but make sure they don’t get too near to the 36% (or 42% depending which payment method you look at) rise that British [...]

Fueling speculation

It seems that npower’s sign online (SOL10 to SOL11) announcement has set the hares running on the underlying meaning of this price change.
The feeling is that this is the first sign of pressure’s telling on a suppliers competitive product set – the fact that some of the regional pricing shifts have been in the high [...]

Future energy price rises

The question on everybody’s lips is, Will there be further energy price increases?, the answer is unfortunately “Yes!”.
Recent reports suggest a 25% price rise is looming. Personally, my predictions for the short term (next 9-12 months) is a little more conservative. Looking at the positioning of the forward prices in the wholesale gas and electricity [...]
